The bull, "Ermitaño" of the Miura ranch, lagged behind and rammed several runners before the entrance to the bull ring. The sixth running of the bulls this year has lasted almost five long minutes.
The sixth running of the Bulls of 2009 featured bulls from the Miura ranch (Sevilla) and has been the longest and most dangerous of the runs so far. A bull called "Ermitaño" ("Hermit") lagged behind and got separated from the others. The bull struck several people along the route, injuring one runner repeatedly near the end of the course, goring and flipping him several times.
This bull had been lagging since the infamous curve of Mercaderes and on the way to the bullfighting stadium he produced the most dramatic moments.
After the traditional hymn to the saint and the launch of the rocket at 8:00am, the Miura bulls left the Santo Domingo corrals. The meeting between bulls and runners at the beginning of the course happened without problems.
The group of bulls crossed the Plaza del Ayuntamiento virtually without paying attention to the runners, as is usual with bulls from this ranch, which is why they are chosen to run on this Sunday, crowded with an influx of weekend runners.
The curve of Mercaderes caused a few bulls to crash against the fence and caused a small pileup of three bulls. One of these bulls was "Ermitaño". At this point, not only did the group get broken up, but "Ermitaño", 1268 pounds (575 kg), became disoriented and ran the rest of the course alone, causing many injuries along the way. "Ermitaño" stopped near the end of the run and turned around, repeatedly attacking the one man and refusing to be led by the young men who were trying to lead him into the ring.
This year, the most riveting, violent moments so far have occurred on the last stretch, known as "Telefónica" and the entrance to the bull ring.
Runners and pastores finally managed to attract the lone bull into the arena where a pair of men led him with capes to the corral.
